Sheep & Goats > Behavior & Training
Sheep make different sounds (bleting) at different times. A ewe serching for a lost flock or her lamb will make a sound that you identify as concern or extreme concern. A ewe will make a very distinctive sound when she is birthing. She may make a strong straining sound but she will also make a sound as if "talking" to the lamb. `Once a producer has heard this sound a couple of times they will reconizee it as the birthing sound. I have heard ewes make that sound and so realized there was a lambing ewe when I could not see them because of a dark barn or they were in a place out of the way. A sheep that is mad at you for being too close may stamp her fron foot at you as well. As producers we need to use all our senses all the time to observe our sheep. AR Cobb
