2008 Grazers Pasture Walk

Join Grazers at the Adams farm, for a day of pasture management education and information. The guest speaker will be Janet McNally. Janet is a pasture-based sheep and beef producer in Hinckley, Minnesota.  Janet began pasture lambing in 1991.  By 2003 she had developed a lamb-finishing program on an all-forage system.  The past three years the flock has been managed with no grain feed.  A portion of the flock includes the Tamarack Prolific, a breed that produces 2.6 lambs per year on average, proving this system can work with higher output sheep.  The cattle have been managed in a similar fashion, with May calving.  However calves are sold as feeders in the early winter.

The pasture walk will be held on July 12, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. A fee of $25 for those who live or work in Kankakee County must be prepaid by July 3, 2008, out of county residents fee is $35. We can not accept any walk-ins. A program registration form can be found on our website at: http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/kankakee/downloads/12335.pdf. Please call 815/933-8337 for more information.
