QUESTION
I have 2 sheep that I rescued about a year ago. For the past 3 months one has been loosing weight & coughing. Had vet down-said she has pneumonia-have treated with injectable (each shoot lasts 3 days) also cough meds. Seems to act better but starts again- She can't clear. She is eating but seems thinner. They have a green pasture but tend not want to go out-but eat hay? I need help- I do not want to loose her!

ANSWER

You did not mention the age of your problem ewe. If she is 4 years or older, you may have a ewe with Ovine Progressive Pneumonia, or, Johnes Disease. The description could point to either of these. Anyway, you could ask your vet's opinion. Does the ewe have a loose, pasty manure? AR Cobb, Extension Sheep Specialist
