ANSWER

Hi Matthew, While you have the right breed to acelerate, it is probably best to look for Dorsets with more production background and breeding rather than Show Dorsets, which may have more Columbia breeding. Our experience is that most Dorsets will acelerate for one or two lambings every 8 months, but most will not continue to acelerate after that. It is worth a try but you will need very specialized sheep and will need excellent management. I suggest you check out the Cornell University homesite listed under Other Universities in the Resource area on SheepNet. They have been the leader in acelerated lambing. They developed the Star System probably 20 years ago and are still using the system although they have modified it from time to time. Good Luck. AR Cobb, Sheep Extension Specialist
