QUESTION
We produce Calcium carbonate at are mine in Davenport, Iowa. We are in the process of deciding to renovate our plant in order to make a poultry grit. We are trying to find out what the market for this material would be and who would be the end users. Is there an association we can join so we can find out the answers to these questions.

ANSWER

CaCO3 is used in most laying hen feed and broiler and turkey breeder feed. I would suggest to contact the United Egg Producers, Midwest Poultry Federation and U.S. Poultry & Egg Association as well as American Feed Industry Association. You can look these up on line. You might also send an email to Kevin Vinchattle (515-727-4701, ext. 13) at Iowa Egg Association and Dr. Christian Bregandahl (515-294-5132) and ask your question to them.
