QUESTION
We've been raising broiler chickens for meat for the past several years and this year seem to have more tearing of the skin on or by the "hips" and vents on our cornish cross chickens. They are currently about 4-5 weeks old. We've been feeding a comercial broiler feed to these chickens, and I've been mixing in cracked corn the last week or so to slow down their eating since they don't like it as much. What can I do/feed to strengthen the skin on these chickens or do in the future to prevent or reduce this problem.
Thanks very much for any advice you can give me.
ANSWER
I'm not sure that you can do anything to strengthen the skin on your broiler chickens. I'm just curious why feeding cracked corn the last week or so. In my opinion, I don't believe that the cracked corn should be fed the last week. Just keep feeding the commercial broiler feed.
