QUESTION
Hi, I am trying to get my parents to let me get some baby chickens, and I would like to know about how much do baby chickens eat? And how much does it change when they grow up? do they need a wide variety of foods? or is chicken feed enough? thanks

ANSWER

It depends on the type (breed) of chickens you get. At maturity a laying hen (one developed just to lay eggs) will eat 100 g/bird/day (1/4 pounds a day). A dual purpose breed (meat and eggs) will eat 125 to 135 g/bird/day. Chick feed and grower feed from a farm supply store would work.
