Poultry > Facilities & Housing
We are going to keep about 14 or 16 chickens over the winter and are planning on using red heat lamps in the coop. Is it safe to have them low where the chickens could get close to the bulb? The fixture will have a wire guard over it. I would like to have one where it would keep the water from freezing.
It would be safer if the heat lamps were 3 to 4 feet off the ground. At that height I believe that you could keep the water from freezing if you had one directly over the waterer.
