Poultry > General
We have had a Rooster take up residence in our backyard a couple of months ago, and since I know nothing about chickens I need help. I bought scratch feed for him and I give him cornbread, and he loves bird seed. Is that enough food, and he roosts in a tree every night. What kind of shelter will he need this winter? I live in Charlotte, N.C. and some times the weather gets a little tough. He's pretty wild, won't let you near him. Also, he has a yellow head, brown and a little green on his body, and blackish tail, and wings. What is he? Thanks very much for your help. Oh, does he need a companion ? Thanks again!!!
You can find out a lot of info about general poultry raising if you have internet access and log on to our web site at: poultrynet.outreach.uiuc.edu/index.cfm. Click on Extension Publications and download any information needed. No, the rooster does not need a companion.
