I need to transport a VERY large rooster. How do you catch one? I am serious! Being a city boy I have no idea. Thought I would ask the experts. The rooster is in a pen with another rooster and several hens. Any and all information on how to safely (to myself and the rooster) cage this critter - Poultry [Skip to Content]

ANSWER

Mr. Suthern:

The way we do it at our research farm is catch a chicken using a poultry catching hook. It is a stiff wire about 4 ft. in length and on the end it is bent in a u shape. Then, the procedure is to walk up close to it and catch one of it's legs in the hook and pull it towards you. Then you can pick it up by it's legs, So, if you can buy a strong length of wire and make a u shape out of one end, that should work. You might also try to catch it by getting a fishing throw net and throw it over the rooster. Hope that helps.
