4-H Poultry Judging

The Illinois 4-H Poultry Judging Team finished in 10th place overall in the Poultry Judging Contest at the 2000 National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky, on November 16. The team also finished in 9th place in the Avian Bowl Contest. Twenty states competed in the judging contest which included judging live past-production hens, ready-to-cook market poultry, and market eggs. The team finished in 7th place in the market eggs division, 13th in the market poultry division, and 10th in the past-production hen division.

Megan Kane from Springfield, Sean Breen from Tuscola, Curt Bauman and Eric DeWerff both from Nokomis represented Illinois in the judging contest. Sean Breen came in 18th in market poultry and 10th in market eggs. Eric DeWerff came in 24th in past-production and 24th in market eggs. The team was coached by Kirk Phelps from Monmouth and Rob Kane served as chaperone for the team at Louisville. Financial support for the poultry judging program including funds to send these 4-Her's to this national educational event and competition came from generous donations to the Illinois 4-H Foundation, State 4-H Office, the Illinois State Turkey Growers Association, and the Illinois Poultry Industry Council.
